Looking to make a used car purchase?
Quick Note: If you’re considering buying a used car we recommend calling a local auto repair shop to set up an appointment (make sure to ask if there’s a fee so you’re not surprised). When you bring the vehicle in for repair, ask what they usually inspect on the vehicle. A thorough inspection should take at least one hour to complete. At Keith’s Car Care, we will give you a written report of the overall condition of the vehicle and digital photo documentation.
This summer, we had one of our clients bring in a Jeep Wrangler that he was interested in purchasing. He told us that they wanted to take it on a trip and would need to haul kayaks with it. He hoped it was in good condition, but wanted assurance from us. We performed a complete 51 point vehicle inspection, looking at everything under the hood as well as the systems under the vehicle. Overall, the vehicle was in excellent shape, including new hardware on the braking system. We did recommend a cooling system flush to improve the protection level in the vehicle. The customer left once the inspection was completed and purchased the vehicle.
Later, the customer had the coolant flush performed and we discovered during the service that the radiator cap was not holding pressure, so it was replaced (a defective cap cannot be noticed by a visual inspection). This was important because if the cap had come off, allowing the coolant to leave the system, the car could overheat and cause engine damage.
Our client was able to take this vehicle out of town and had a fabulous trip. It was a great feeling for us to make this dream come true for this family.
If you want to purchase a quality used vehicle, have it inspected BEFORE you buy- it may save you from expensive repairs and you can be just as satisfied with your purchase as our client was.
