You do, of course! But have you had the cooling system of your vehicle flushed? That’s right- having the cooling system maintained properly will help you stay warm when it is cold outside.
Why? The cooling system in your vehicle is composed of several components: engine, thermostat, water pump, radiator and hoses. Over time, scale, rust and corrosion can form in the system which decreases its ability to exchange heat and can permanently damage some of the components and may cause costly repairs.
To avoid this, a cooling system flush is recommended every 30,000 miles.
A flush machine is connected to the vehicle and the technician chemically flushes the cooling system of your car. Old coolant, which may be contaminated, is removed and replaced with fresh coolant. A treatment product is then installed which increases the coolant’s ability to prevent rust and corrosion and inhibits the formation of new deposits.
This service typically takes 45-60 minutes and costs approximately $125.
WARNING: Not all cooling system flushes are created equally! Ask for a detailed explanation of what the service involves- some repair shops simply drain and fill the coolant and this would not flush contaminants out of the system.
